We don’t usually suggest piling on big earrings and a necklace simultaneously, but we’re glad she did.

Mary J Blige performed at the GM Celebrates A Night of Cars and Stars show yesterday, in a pair of giant silver hoop earrings. The silver hoop earrings are a staple of Mary’s jewelry uniform lately. Work it Mary!

Last week’s Golden Globes may have been cancelled due to the writers strike, but the free goodie bags for the celebs were in full swing. In his usual style, Johnny Depp piled on the silver necklaces for his journey to Japan for the Tokyo premier of “Sweeney Todd“. Here he is getting off the plane at the Tokyo International Airport. It must have taken at least 45 minutes to unload all of his neckware to pass the metal detector test. This layered necklace look works for him.

Tennis cutie Lleyton Hewitt wore his wedding band on a silver wheat chain to the Next Generation Adelaide International earlier this week. Other atheletes , such as Marat Safin, have used this trick to keep their wedding rings out of the way while playing. This could be a silver jewelry trend in the making, and we think it looks quite sporty.

Nicky Hilton, who was once a frequent gold jewelry wearer is suddenly popping up with all kinds of designer silver jewelry pieces. Here she is last week in Las Vegas at the opening of Color Studio. She is sporting some nice 2″ silver hoop earrings and a silver necklace with a pendant in the shape of a leaf. The chain is an 18″ cable. We think this necklace was made by Jennifer Meyer, who happens to share a 9 month old baby daughter with Toby Maguire.

Earlier this week Tommy Lee was spotted at the grand opening of Luxor’s Cathouse restaurant in Las Vegas wearing a pile of silver necklaces. One of his necklaces shown here is a great example of designer silver jewelry, and it features a random series of discs and circles and chains. This is a gender-neutral look and could easily be worn by men or women. We think this necklace is by Saundra Messinger. We like the earthy vibe of this piece.

Earlier this week, Sharon Stone was spotted donning a great example of everyday silver cross jewelry at the Lakers vs. Boston Celtics game. We love her casual silver cross necklace. It looks like it is heavily oxidized (blackened) silver. This process usually involves taking the silver piece and heating it up with a torch to oxidize the metal. The end result is that the normally very white sterling silver turns darker, which basically speeds up the tarnishing process. There are other ways to oxidize silver, such as painting Fungicide directly on the silver. Yes, the kind people use on plants. Don’t try this at home, kids.
