Ashley Jensen of HBO’s “Extras” took the organic approach to jewelry at this week’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.  From a double stranded silver chain necklace dangles a rock, literally.  Sometimes the simplest uncontrived materials work well for designer jewelry - in this case, a rock with a hole drilled through it.

Cate Blanchett was spotted wearing some dangly diamond earrings to the SAG awards earlier this week. We think that these are diamond and green tourmaline. Green is definitely her color.

Giuliana DePandi wore a stunning gemstone and silver ring to the Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this week. This ring is studded with diamonds and what appears to be Labradorite cabochons set in a blackened silver or white gold. Although enormous, this piece is versatile enough to be worn with jeans. The oxidized (blackened) silver immediately gives this ring a feeling of accessibility and informality, not flashiness.

Leelee Sobieski was spotted yesterday in West Hollywood wearing this very cool silver necklace, which features a silver clam shell on a very long silver ball chain. Long necklaces and organic shapes in designer jewelry are turning up everywhere these days, but this is a particularly fresh interpretation. A statement piece like this one can really transform an otherwise very basic black outfit.

Mena Suvari was in Sundance this week promoting her film, “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh“. She looks cute in her silver hoop earrings and very long silver necklace with a round disc pendant. The necklace length is very long, which in itself is a trend lately. We like how the silver is blackened slightly, and the gold pendant has a matte finish. Very nice contrast.

John Legend also attended the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, sans jewelry.  Where is the jewelry, John?  We’ll send him some.

Mischa Barton knows how to pile on her jewelry!  It’s nice to see that some people dress up at Sundance.  Here, Mischa is celebrating her new film, “Assassination of A High School President“.  Here, she combines a peace symbol necklace, a cross necklace, and an enormous silver cuff bracelet successfully.

This is one of the coolest lariat-style silver necklaces we’ve seen in ages.  In fact, we haven’t seen any lariat necklaces in ages, but this one is chunky and has a huge silver chain and it really makes a statement.  The lovely Maria Bello was spotted wearing it on Monday to the 2008 Sundance premier of her new film “Downloading Nancy“.  It is made by Chanel.  Notice, people, that the best way to dress up basic black and jeans is with silver jewelry.

Bon Jovi like their silver cross jewelry.  Here they are last night playing at Acer Arena in Sydney Australia.  Jon Bon Jovi’s silver cross necklace is very simple and the pendant hangs from an understated brown leather cord.  Richie Sambora’s silver cross necklace is much more elaborate and it looks like it is made by Chrome Hearts.

Actors Olivia Wilde and Dave Annable enjoyed the swag party at Fred Segal at the Lift earlier this week at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.  These tooled leather bracelets are not only original, but they are casual pieces that really work well with the cold-weather attire that Sundance is famous for.  Olivia’s leather bracelet says “Peace”, and Dave’s has an engraved cross.
